これで、彼女の乳がんになる確率は８７％から５％に減ったそうです。
彼女はその手術のことと、自分の子どもたちにあなたたちの母親を乳がんに取られる恐れはないのよ、と伝えることができるとNew York TimesのOpinion 欄への投稿で書かれています。
アメリカではこういったことを予防医学ととらえているようです。
私が予防医学といえば思いつくのは、病気にならない生活を心がけ、毎年健診を受けることです。
乳がんは早期発見されればほぼ１００％完治できます。
私ならこちらの予防を選択します。
高２の生徒にどう思うか意見を聞き、まず日本語で考え、それを英語で書いてもらうよう言いました。
社会的な問題に関心を持ち、それに対する意見を英語で言えるようにすることは、英語上達にとても役立ちます。
私も、英会話スクールに通っていた頃、何度もこういった問題への自分の考えを英語でエッセイにまとめ、先生に聞いてもらったり、添削してもらいました。

I wanted to write this to tell other women that the decision to have a mastectomy was not easy. But it is one I am very happy that I made. My chances of developing breast cancer have dropped from 87 percent to under 5 percent. I can tell my children that they don’t need to fear they will lose me to breast cancer.

私の意見です。高校生に英作してきなさいと言った以上、自分もしないとね。
I think Jolie had the great courage to get the surgery in order to prevent herself from getting breast and ovarian cancer. It may be good for her and her family, but I don’t think I can do that for the following three reasons.
First, I may not have the courage to get the operations even if I’m told I’m highly susceptible to cancers, so I don’t want to hear such information about myself and fear for that.
Second, cancers can be prevented if we live in a healthy way like eating rightly, having moderate exercise and leading a well-regulated life.
Lastly, cancers can be cured almost completely if they are found in their early stages. I have a medical checkup every year so that something wrong with me can be found and I can take some action at once.
In conclusion, I wouldn’t take the choice Jolie did and have a healthy lifestyle to prevent myself from getting diseases such as cancers.
