I teach one high school student on Saturday. It’s one on one lesson. Even so, I don’t work shoddily. I take time hours to make careful preparations. I learn English a lot from high school students’ classes myself.

The student is highly-motivated, but he sometimes seems tired from trying to juggle schoolwork and his club activities.

Many high school students have the same problem, but I think it important to continue their club activities to the end.

I belonged to the basketball club when I was a first grader of a senior high school. I quit it for the reason that I wanted to study after a year. But I didn’t study much and my school record got worse after all, and spent a dreary school life in the second year. I studied more when I was busy with club activities.

So, study hard as well as do club activities. I’m full of enthusiasm for what you’re doing.

土曜日は、一人（高２生）教えています。マンツーマンレッスンです。だからといって、手を抜いたりはしませんよ。準備にも、時間をかけています。高校生を教えることで、難しい英語が学べるので、自分の勉強にもなります。

Y君は、勉強にとても意欲的ですが、やはり、学業と部活の両立は大変なようです。

多くの高校生が同じ問題を抱えていると思いますが、私は、最後まで部活を続けることが大事と思っています。

私も、高校１年生の時、バスケ部に入ってましたが、勉強したいという理由で、高２でやめました。でも、結局、勉強しなくて、成績も下がり、灰色の高２でした。部活で忙しかった時の方が、時間を惜しんで勉強してたのです。

ですから、勉強も部活もがんばってほしいですね。応援してるよ。

I had no job today. I went to my parents’ house in the afternoon. I bought some flowers and gave them to my mother, which she asked me to yesterday. She loves flowers. She plants flowers in her gardens every year. I think it’s good to have a hobby like that.

今日は仕事がありませんでした。本当は、高1クラスのレッスンをする予定だったのですが、4人中3人が部活の活動があって、来れないということで、5月の連休に振替レッスンをしてあげることにしたのです。

午後、実家に行き、昨日、母に頼まれていた花を買って持って行ってあげました。母は花が大好きで、庭や畑に毎年植えています。そういう趣味があるのはいいことですね。

There are four students in Thursday class ; the two are boys and the other two girls. They are all fourth graders at an elementary school.

Three of them started coming to my English school just a year ago and one started it this month.

The boys are full of beans. The girls are a little bit quiet.

Please game – Students do and say the action only when I say “Please ~ .” If they make a mistake, they have to sit down. The last student standing wins.

Days of the week.

Whenever they have lesson, I make them say days of the week so that they will learn them.

 木曜クラスには4人生徒がいます。男の子、女の子2人ずつで、みんな小学4年生。

3人は、英語を始めてから、ちょうど1年。1人は、この4月からの新規の生徒です。

このクラスは、男の子が元気で、女の子がちょっとおとなしめ。

今日のレッスン

復習　：　What can you do? I can touch my shoulders.

プリーズゲーム　－ 先生が、Pleaseをつけて言った時だけ、生徒はリピートしてアクションします。間違えたら、座ります。最後まで立っていた生徒のチームの勝ちです。みんな、真剣に私の言うことを聞きます。こうして、相手の言っていることを聞く集中力がつきます。

曜日の練習

毎回、レッスンで、毎日の宿題のチェックをする時に、曜日を英語で言わせてますので、日曜～土曜の並びでなら言えるのですが、カードを使ってばらばらに言わせると、まだ難しいようです。

There are six students in Kids English Wednesday class. They are all six graders.

Two of them have learned English for a year, and the other two for two years. One is a new student.

Today’s lesson :

Is this/that a calendar? Yes, it is. No, it isn’t.

These are windows. Those are pictures.

It took some time to teach them. I wanted to make them do workbook too, but there was no time to spare for that.

“Step by Step” is important in teaching English. Children don’t learn many things at a time. I should take time and take it easy.

これだけのレッスンをするのにも結構時間がかかります。なんとか、ワークブックまでやりたいと思ったのですが、時間切れで、次にすることにしました。

「ステップバイステップ」一つずつ教えることが大事と教わりましたが、一度に多くを教えようとしても子どもは疲れてしまいます。 あせらないでいかないと。

There are four students in Kids English Tuesday class.

Three of them have been learning English at my school for one or two years, and they are very active and speak out loud.

The girls were very quiet at first, but now their voice echoes throghout the house.

A boy joined this class this March. He may be overwhelmed by the other three students, but I think he will speak loud before long.

Today’ activities :

A:　What do you want?

B:　Make a gesture of what he/she wants. 

A:  Do you want ~ ?

B:　Yes, I do. or No, I don’t.

This was a lucky food game, and the team which had the food card won.

The new student won a game of saying days of the week faster. Don’t give up, the student who lost the game.

 Kids English火曜クラスは、5年生4人のクラスです。

3人は、1～2年続けてくれていて、とっても元気。女の子は、教室に入ってくれた最初の頃は、とてもおとなしかったのに（笑）。今では、私の家じゅうに響き渡りそうな大きな声を出してくれます。

1人は3月から新規で入ってくれた男の子です。ちょっと、3人の元気さに圧倒されているかもしれませんが、慣れてきたら、きっとそのうち、元気な声がでると思います。

今日は、こんなゲームをしました。

A:　What do you want?

B:　ほしいものをジェスチャーします。

A:  Do you want ~ ?

B:　合ってたらYes, I do. 違ってたら　No, I don’t.

これはラッキーフードゲームで、ラッキーフードカードを持っていた生徒のチームにポイントが入りました。

あと、曜日を言うゲームで、新規の生徒が勝ちました。負けちゃった生徒、がんばってよ！

Awesome! というのは、俗語で「すごーい」とか「すてき！」といった意味を持っています。

I taught six elementary school students who were from the first graders to the third in one class last year. The number of new students increased this April, so I decided to devide them into two classes ; one is for the second and the third graders, the other is for the fourth graders.

Then, the younger students has become very talkative. It seems that they can relax with others who are about the same age.

I have to scold them when they are too noisy.

In Kids English, I always divide students into two teams, and give points to the team which is more energetic or won games. They can get a reward when they save up ten points. So they do their best wanting for the points.

I pretend to take the points when they won’t listen to me or won’t stop talking. It is very effective and they become well mannered.

Today’s lessons were ”What is it? It’s a train.”, saying ABC, etc.

The new students are still quiet. I hope they will get used to lessons and speak out loud.      

昨年度、小学1年生から3年生まで6人を同じクラスで教えていたのですが、4月より新規の生徒の数が増えましたので、新2～3年と4年生を分けることにしました。

すると、今までおとなしかった2～3年生の生徒がとってもよくしゃべるようになったんです。どうやら、年齢が近いとリラックスできるようです。

あまりによくしゃべるので時々注意しなければならないほどです。

子ども英語では、いつも、クラスを2チームに分け、元気が良い方のチームとか、ゲームで勝ったチームにポイントをあげています。ポイントがたまって10ポイントになればごほうびがもらえますので、みんながんばってくれます。

でも、言うことを聞いてくれない時や、おしゃべりが止まらないと、このポイントを引く真似をします。すると、効果てきめんで、生徒はまじめになるんです。

今日は、What is it? It’s a train. ABCを言う練習等をしました。

新しい生徒はまだおとなしいのですが、早く慣れて、元気な声を出してくれたらいいですね。

My daughter went to Kannnabe on her school trip this morning. She will be back tomorrow. It must be hard on the students to walk for about two hours and a half to get to the destination. They’ve got to walk to come back tomorrow too. She will say she has a pain at her legs.  

I hope she will have a good time there with her friends.  

School excursions for the second and third graders at the high school will be made tomorrow.

High school students are busy with their school, studies and club activitites. Doing nothing but study will make their school life dreary. I believe that this kind of activities will become their good memory of school days.

今朝、娘が高校の集団訓練旅行で神鍋に行きました。明日、帰ってきます。歩いて目的地に着くのに約2時間半、さぞかし、大変だと思います。明日の帰りも歩きです。きっと、足が痛いと言うでしょうね。

でも、友達と楽しい時を過ごすことと思います。

２年生３年生の遠足は明日です。

高校生は、学校、勉強、部活で忙しいです。ただ、勉強だけするのでは、学校生活が灰色になってしまうでしょう。こういった活動は学校時代の良い思いでになると思います。

The Golden Week is coming soon. What’s your plan for the holiday?

I’m going to visit my parents’ house. There will be a festival called “Mikawasan” on May 3rd in my hometown.

The festival is held at a shrine in the depths of the mountains. An alter for burning holy sticks of invocation is built, a holy fire is lit and some Buddhist priests chant incantations to protect against misfortune. People pray for family happiness, health and longevity. 

There used to be many people who enjoyed the festival, but the number of people who visit there has decreased.

三川権現祭で撮った

もうすぐゴールデンウィークですね。みなさん、もう予定はたてておられるでしょうか？

私のふるさとでは、５月３日に「三川さん」（正式には三川権現祭）と呼ばれるお祭りがあり、実家でごちそうをよばれます。

お祭りは、三川という深い山の中にあるお寺であります。護摩が焚かれ、お坊さんが加持祈祷を行われます。三川さんにお参りする人は、家内安全、無病息災、長命などを願ってお祈りします。

私の小さい頃は、たくさんの人でにぎわいましたが、今ではお参りする人もずいぶん少なくなりました。

I introduced the book “The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs” in my recommendation corner.

There is an interesting story in it.

Steve wanted to headhunt the president of Pepsi-Cola who was a talented person rich in experience of marketing and management.

“Won’t you come to Apple?”

“Impossible.” The president answered.

Steve couldn’t give him up and asked again,

“Will you keep selling sugar water? Or take a chance to change the world?”

He remembers he felt as if he took a powerful punch on the stomach.

Don’t you think this is great? A word of his moved the president’s mind. His passion for his products seizes people’s mind.

I hope to be able to motivate my students who don’t study to study with my passion for English.

その本の中で、こんなお話が出てきます。

ジョブズは、マーケティングと経営に豊富な経験を持つ人材がどうしても欲しくて、ペプシコの社長ジョン・スカリーを引き抜こうとしました。「アップルにこないか。」と。でも、ジョン・スカリーは「あり得ない。」と答えました。普通ならここであきらめるところでしょうが、ジョブズは次のように言ったのです。

「一生、砂糖水を売り続ける気かい？それとも世界を変えるチャンスにかけてみるかい？」

スカリーは胃のあたりに強烈なパンチをくらった気がしたと回想しています。

これってすごいですよね。この一言で、一大企業の社長の気持ちを動かしたのですから。

ジョブズの製品への情熱、熱い思いが人々をつかむのです。

私の英語への情熱、熱い思いが、勉強しない生徒に、やる気を起こさせないかしら。(*^^)v
